This is not like some of the other schemes that you might have come across. This scheme has been designed with the intention of encouraging the development of children’s ICT skills in a fun, stimulating setting and reducing teacher workload. This is a complete package to assess and record pupils ICT skills from reception to Year 6.
The scheme is separated into 8 colour bands that are designed to represent a child’s progression and development of ICT skills throughout Foundation, Keystage 1 and Keystage 2. The colours represent the levels as follows:
White - Early Years
Red - Reception
Orange - Y1 - level 2
Yellow - Y2 - level 2/3
Green - Y3 – level 3
Blue - Y4 – level 3/4
Indigo - Y5 – level 4
Violet - Y6 level 4/5
The MouseIT Scheme is based on and around the QCA IT units and as such the schools could easily adopt the assessment practices that go along with it. The extra good news is that you won’t need to spend ages planning for IT and juggling endless folders, everything you need is kept in one place.
